Was WWII necessary? I have always presumed that it was. And that the source of the problem was, in part, Chamberlain's appeasement in Munich. Buchanan takes this notion to task in this article.
Personally, I find this kind of thing fascinating for a couple of reasons:
1) Chamberlain's pre-WWII actions are held up as the gold standard of what NOT to do to avoid war. But where, exactly did he go wrong? That's not a small point and it deserves careful analysis.
2) Anything that can help us to understand history and how certain wars could have been prevented is a good thing, IMO.
